It's become quite fashionable in 'Christian circle

It's become quite fashionable in 'Christian circles' to talk about returning to "New Testament Christianity"

Which part of the New Testament are we talking about though - the bit where believers were dragged out of their houses and arrested for their faith? Or the bit where persecution scattered all the believers but they still continued to boldly preach the gospel everywhere they went? Or the bit where every believer lived sacrifically to make more disciples and devoted themselves selflessly to God's Kingdom and to others?

Or is there some other part of "New Testament Christianity" that I have missed?

One day Jesus met a man who was a really bad sinne

One day Jesus met a man who was a really bad sinner. He'd cheated people out of money and had a lot of other really bad friends. (You can read the story yourself in Luke 19 if you want)

Jesus invited himself to this man's house and had a meal with him and all his notoriously bad friends.

Some other 'more religious' people got upset with Jesus for going to eat with bad people like this man and his friends.

We're not quite sure what happened during the meal but afterwards the man said he was going to pay back all the people he'd robbed and cheated. Meeting Jesus had changed something inside him. At the end of the story Jesus says that "salvation has come to the house" and that he came to seek and save lost people.

Today I read this story with a family who are going through some challenges. They gave me some food to eat and after we had discussed the story the Mum of the family went on her phone to pay back some money she owed to somebody.

Then she asked what else followers of Jesus do.

We are now making plans for her baptism.

I'd say that salvation has come to that house?

In God's Kingdom...

It's not about what you are doing but about what God is doing.

It's not about how many people you witness to but whether you find a household of peace to stay with.

It's not about how many people you are teaching or leading. It is about whether they grow as disciples and obey Jesus in your absence.

It is more about your willingness to die and sacrifice than your ability to be excellent and successful.
