No more talk please…

Today God led me to visit one of the towns in our area. This is one of the towns where we are looking to plant Churches.

As I headed there I felt God asking me to use my senses – to listen and to see things. I visited the town next door and walked on to the next town. I made notes of all the places where people were gathering/do gather so that we could pray for those places and actively look for ways to start Churches there.

When I got to the next town I tried to listen and see what was going on. Two situations spoke to me:

i) I overheard one conversation where two people were talking about what they were struggling with

ii) I saw one man explaining his opinions vigorously to another man. He was just talking at this other guy and vomiting a load of information onto the poor man!

Through these two situations God showed me two important lessons about working with Him to make disciples and start Churches. If we will shut up and listen to others then very quickly we will find out what they are struggling with. Then we can look for ways to bring the Kingdom of God into their lives and struggles. If we will cut the talk and the theoretical discussions and share with people what they are really looking for then maybe we will see the Kingdom of God growing amongst people around us.

I was reminded about what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians..

“And so it was with me brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God……My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power….” (1 Cor 2:1-6)

“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power…” (1 Cor 4:20)

The wise master builder (1 Cor 3:10) has spoken…..!
