I just started reading through a book about influential followers of Jesus. I wanted to learn from their stories…
The first chapter was about Katherine Von Bora (1499-1552) She was Martin Luther’s wife. It’s a good reminder about the partnership of marriage and how each person has a part to play in the ‘family mission’.
The chapter explains how Martin and Katherine were married in private, were heavily persecuted from the start and how their marriage was founded on Jesus Christ.
Here are some quotes which struck me:
“Luther described marriage as the ‘School of character”
“The town recognised that the Luther household was an exemplary Christian home and much of that success was due to Katherine”
“It wasn’t easy being married to Luther. His food would go cold while he debated theology at the dinner table”
Respect to all you wives who sacrifice themselves for the sake of Jesus…
