I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ

“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.” (Colossians 3:5-12)

As we enter into a New Year I have been thinking about how the more important issue is entering into the new man which has been provided for us through Jesus Christ.

This year we will all be involved with many noble activities – helping people, providing aid for people around the world and looking for ways to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to people around us.

Let’s not forget though that the fundamental issue we all have is a heart issue. God’s work starts on the inside and through this ‘heart change’ an outward lifestyle change follows.

In 2011 let’s ask God to give us a great passion for Jesus Christ and His message of inside out transformation. What do we need to do in order to be passionate disciples of Jesus Christ ourselves? And what do we need to do in order to see communities of passionate disciples multiplying in the regions where we live?

Much of what we have grown to accept does not deal with change at a heart level. Church. Life-improvement messages. Social projects. Aid projects for the third world. These all hope to bring inward change through dealing with outward things first. They are not bad things but they put the cart before the horse…A cart might appear really helpful but if it has no way of being propelled then it is useless! Are we helping others to experience the journey of following Jesus for themselves or are just giving to them what we think they need?

The only thing that can bring true transformation  is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The only way people can be transformed from the inside in a way that will bring lasting change to them, their families and the world around them is not through positive New Year thinking – but through the “putting on” of the ‘new Jesus man’.

  • How can we experience inside-out transformation this year?
  • How can we share Jesus’ message of inside out transformation with others?
  • How can we help people who are being transformed from the inside-out bring lasting change to their communities?

May we see the New Life that comes only through Jesus Christ spreading in and through us in this new year…
