“Give yourself entirely to them…”

We are doing what we are doing because God has called us to do it. People have prophesied it over us. And we have felt it for a long time.

Lately we have been trying to set aside time for prayer so that we can become more focused on what God is asking US to do. Sure we read blogs, books and listen to the thoughts of others. But what is it that God has spoken to US about?

Well for us – we are convinced that God wants to see new churches and groups of disciples birthed amongst the harvest. That means seeing individuals and then groups of people coming to faith in Jesus and obeying His words. Maybe as much as 98% of people here in the UK are not disciples of Jesus. Existing groups and Churches are working hard to reach out. But it is going to take so much more than this. We need to see churches and communities of faith established amongst the harvest. This means that people won’t only be added to existing churches as has been the major thrust in the last few years but also that Jesus will build His church amongst the harvest much the same as we would expect to see in the ‘overseas mission field’.

So because of that we are giving ourselves to the ‘harvest’. We are giving our time and lives into people and communities who do not know Jesus with the hope of seeing people come to faith and then sharing this new found faith in Jesus with those around them.

Paul writes these words to Timothy ,whom he describes as a true son in the faith, “Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.” (1 Timothy 4:14-16)

We want to encourage you – do not neglect the gift of God in you. To ‘neglect’ means to ‘treat carelessly or not give enough attention to’. Let’s not be careless with the gifts and visions that God has given us. Let’s sow everything we have into them. Let’s give our time to them and meditate upon them. Give attention to what you feel the Lord has spoken to you about.

For many of us we have grown up in church circles where there has been lots of talk about visions, ‘what God is going to do’ and ‘what God has put on this person’s heart’. But surely we will not see what God wants to come to pass without serious sowing and investment!

Give yourself to what God has called you to do and keep on giving yourself……
